Your hourly slot is reserved before you arrive, so you walk straight to the site gate instead of queuing at the Dion ticket office. On busy days that queue can take a while as coach tours and school groups arrive from Thessaloniki and the Olympus resorts, so coming with your ticket already in hand saves the wait in the sun.

You choose the date and an hourly time slot, and your ticket is valid for a single entry during that hour on that day. Just arrive within your slot window and show your mobile ticket at the gate; last entry is about 30 minutes before closing.

Full admission to the Archaeological Park of Dion — the sanctuary of Zeus Olympios, the sanctuaries of Demeter and of Isis, the Hellenistic and Roman theatres, the Roman baths and their mosaics, the Villa of Dionysus and the paved Roman streets — together with the Archaeological Museum of Dion in the nearby village, which is covered by the same ticket.

Yes. The Archaeological Museum of Dion stands in the village of Dion, a short walk from the park entrance, and is included in your entry ticket. It holds the finds from more than a century of excavation — the cult statues from the sanctuaries, sculpture, mosaics, everyday objects, and the celebrated Dion hydraulis, the oldest surviving pipe organ in the world — and makes a natural indoor complement to the open-air park.

Dion was the sacred centre of the Macedonian kingdom, and its kings honoured Olympian Zeus here for generations. In 334 BC, before crossing into Asia to fight the Persian Empire, Alexander the Great held a great festival of sacrifices and games at Dion, dedicating his campaign to Zeus. It is one of the places most closely tied to the Macedonian royal house and to the launch of Alexander's conquests.

Dion is about 90 km southwest of Thessaloniki, at the foot of Mount Olympus and near Katerini and Litochoro. By car it is around an hour and a quarter from Thessaloniki. Without a car, take a train or KTEL intercity bus to Katerini or Litochoro on the main Athens–Thessaloniki line, then a local bus or a short taxi to the village of Dion and the park.

Yes — it is the classic pairing. Dion sits at the very foot of Mount Olympus, and Litochoro, the gateway village for walks and drives up the mountain, is only a short distance away. Many visitors spend the cooler morning among the ruins and the afternoon on the Olympus foothills, or combine Dion with the Enipeas gorge near Litochoro.

Book the first hourly slot after opening, or one of the last slots before closing, and travel outside the July–August peak if you can. Dion has more shade than most Greek sites, thanks to its trees and streams, but the middle of a summer day is still the hottest and busiest stretch, when coach tours overlap. An early or late slot gives cooler air and a calmer walk among the sanctuaries.

Most visitors spend about 1.5 to 2 hours in the park and a further half hour or so in the museum in the village. Add more time if you want to linger over the sanctuaries and mosaics, or if you are combining Dion with a walk or drive on Mount Olympus, which turns the outing into a full day.

No. The standard entry ticket is not personalised and needs no passport or name — just show your mobile ticket at the gate. (Reduced and free-entry categories set by the operator may require ID at the gate; our ticket is standard full admission.)

Partly. Dion is an open archaeological park on largely level ground, but with grass, gravel, ancient paving and some wooden walkways over the spring-fed areas, which can be damp or soft. The main paved streets and the museum in the village are reachable with care. Visitors with limited mobility can see a good deal of the site but should allow extra time and expect uneven or soft surfaces in places.

Yes — the site is open daily, year-round. Only the daily hours change with the season: longer in summer (roughly 08:00–20:00) and shorter in winter, with timed entry by the hour and last entry about 30 minutes before closing. Hours can change on public holidays, so confirm on the day.
